This article is only relevant when the country in which the employee pays their social security contributions (home country/payroll country) is Spain.

Applying for A1 certificates in Spain is done online through the Seguridad Social portal. The process is relatively structured, but the main challenge is that each Spanish region can have slightly different practices, which sometimes leads to delays or additional requests. Processing usually takes 2–4 weeks, but in some regions it can take longer.

✅ What you need to do

1. Sign a Power of Attorney (POA)
We will provide you with a POA template. Please sign it and return it to us. Please fill properly the CCC (Código Cuenta de Cotización), the 11-digit number issued by Spain’s Social Security authority (TGSS) that identifies a company or self-employed employer. It works like the employer’s “ID number” and it is required to apply for the A1s.

2. Grant WorkFlex authorization on the Seguridad Social portal
Your entity must authorize WorkFlex as your representative within the portal.
During onboarding, we’ll share a step-by-step guide to complete this authorization.

⚠️ Key points to bear in mind

  • A POA is always required.

  • The Seguridad Social authorization must be granted by your main RED Authorized user (Autorizado RED principal), who will designate WorkFlex as a secondary RED authorized user (Autorizado RED secundario), allowing us to apply for the A1s. This authorization is processed within approximately 24 hours. Once active, WorkFlex can immediately proceed with the A1 submissions. Without the Autorizado RED secundario, WorkFlex cannot submit applications.

👉 Once the POA and authorization are in place, WorkFlex will handle your Spanish A1 applications end-to-end.
