What is a Domestic Business Trip?
A domestic business trip is any work-related trip that takes place within the employee's payroll country. Similar to the domestic workation feature, this new functionality allows employees to log and request approval for business trips that stay within their home country - all directly in WorkFlex.
Many organisations need a simple way to track and approve domestic travel without triggering full compliance workflows. The domestic business trip feature addresses this by providing a lightweight, streamlined approval path for in-country travel.
How It Works
Compliance Status
Domestic business trips carry a compliance status of "Not required". This means:
• No risk assessment is needed.
• No A1 certificate or Certificate of Coverage (COC) is required.
• No additional PWD/A1 questions will be shown to the employee.
The "Not required" status makes domestic business trips ideal for use as a simple approval trigger - giving managers visibility and sign-off without complex compliance overhead.
Approval Flow
Domestic business trip requests follow the same approval process as other trip types in WorkFlex, ensuring consistency with your company's existing policies. HR managers can filter the trip overview by the "Not required" compliance status to quickly identify and manage domestic business trips.
Country Selection in the Trip Form
Previously, an employee's payroll country was hidden from the destination dropdown (since a domestic trip would not be shown). Going forward, the payroll country will always appear in the destination list, but with the following behaviour:
• Domestic trips disabled: The payroll country appears dimmed with the label "Domestic trips disabled", so employees are aware of the option but cannot select it.
• Domestic trips enabled: The payroll country is fully selectable and triggers the domestic business trip flow.
How to Enable Domestic Business Trips
To activate this feature for your company, please reach out to your Customer Success Manager.
Once enabled, employees will be able to select their payroll country as a destination and submit a domestic business trip request through the standard WorkFlex trip flow.
